Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington, N.C., and Jonathan Jackson of Chapel Hill, N.C., needed 20 holes in Sunday’s championship match to defeat defending champions, Paul Tucker of Waxhaw, N.C., and Brent Roof of Columbia and win the 63rd Four-Ball Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association played over the Camden Country Club.
Crenshaw holed a 12-foot birdie putt on the 20th hole to win his second Carolinas Four-Ball title and sixth overall CGA crown. Crenshaw partnered, this year, with college teammate at UNC-Chapel Hill Jonathan Jackson, who took home his first CGA title.
“We have been wanting to play in a four-ball together since we were in college at (North) Carolina,” said Crenshaw. “It just has not worked out until this year when (former playing partner) Blair (Bowland) was unable to play.”
Locally, the pairing of Camden’s Chris Campbell and Kyle Eckenroth, who qualified tied for 19th with a 65-73--138, and Tommy Hurst of Camden and playing partner John Ferguson of Travelers Rest, who qualified  tied for seventh with a 68-66--134, were both knocked out in the round of 16.
Camden’s Ryan Reynolds and Brandon Cemprola of Lugoff, who qualified tied for 11th with a 70-66--136, were defeated in the round of 32.
Camden’s Will Hicks and Tyler Smith of Columbia just missed qualifying for match play, finishing tied for 43rd after the two-round qualifier with a 75-72--147.
