Baseball, hoops kick off summer camp season

With the school year rapidly coming to a close, it is time for summer youth sports camps in Kershaw County.
The first two of the year will be held the first week of vacation and are both set to be held in the West Wateree region of Kershaw County.

Vision Basketball Camp: Directed by former Camden High and Jacksonville University basketball standout Harvin Council, the annual basketball camp is designed for boys and girls basketball players of all skill levels. Assisting Council throughout the week will be college and high school basketball players form in and around the region. Stations will be set up to work on individual skills while three-on-three games, five-on-five games and skills competitions will also be part of the curriculum at this annual camp. Awards will be given out for hot shot, free throw and defense competitions.
Date: June 2-6
Location: Leslie M. Stover Middle School Gym
Ages: 6 - 16 (beginner - advanced)
Cost: $50

Demon Baseball Camp: This camp is held at Optimist Field on the campus of Lugoff-Elgin High School and is open to youth ages 7 through 13. Beginners through advanced players are welcome to learn the fundamentals of the game or, improve their skills through the various drills and stations. Instructing the camp will be Randy Stokes, L-E High varsity coach with local college and high school players assisting. Players will need to come dressed and ready to take part in drills and games by wearing baseball attire which includes proper shoes, hats and water bottles.

Registration: Call or visit the Kershaw County Recreation Department (West DeKalb St. in Camden) at 425-6009 or, sign up at the field on the first morning of camp starting at 8:30 a.m.
