North wins state Greco-Roman title

Local karate athletes seek funds for nationals

Noah North led four members of the West Wateree Wrestling Club who earned top five finishes at last month’s South Carolina USA Wrestling State Championships held at Fort Mill High School.
North, a rising sophomore at Lugoff-Elgin High school, won the Greco-Roman championship at 145 pounds and was second in the freestyle division. L-E classmate Taylor Catoe was second in Greco-Roman at 138 pounds and fourth in freestyle.
Devin Wilson, a rising freshman at L-E High took fifth place in Greco-Roman at 106 pounds while Tanner Bradshaw, a six-year-old student at Blaney Elementary School, was third at 45 pounds.
Local karate athletes raising funds for nationals: Members of the Carolina Family Karate (CFK) Competition Team of Lugoff  have won 34 medals in just two competitions, with half of of those being gold. The students ranged in age from six through 17 and competed in fourdisciplines that are popular in karate competition.
The CFK Team members include: Jared Conwell, Sarah and Hannah Gustafson, Blake Wagers, Johnny Lee, Lia Cappello, Lainey Williams and Nate Manning.
The team is also asking members of the community to help get them to the AAU Karate Nationals in Ft Lauderdale, Fla., on July 1-4.
