Depending on your perspective, Wednesday night’s rain storm arrived at just the right time or, at an inopportune moment for the Kershaw County American Legion baseball team.
Trailing host Cheraw, 9-7, in the fourth inning of that night’s League III contest at Tom Brewer Field, the sky opened and with an inning and a half left before this game was official, the field was left unplayable. After a wait of several minutes, the two umpires postponed the game.
No make-up up date had been decided on as of press time on Thursday.
Cheraw was scheduled to come to American Legion Park in Camden on Thursday for what was slated to have been the final game of the three-game series.
The 17ers will step out of League III play on Saturday, to host Lancaster in a 2 p.m. start in the first game of the Palmetto Invitational, hosted by Florence Post 1. The KC Post 17 Junior team will host Lancaster at 11 a.m.
The 24-team Palmetto Invitational will continue for the P-17 Senior squad on Saturday, June 28 in Florence when they take on Jacksonville (N.C.) in a 10 a.m. start and then face Garner (N.C.) at 3 p.m. On Sunday, June 29, the locals meet Potomac Valley (W. Va.) at 5:30 p.m.
