You are invited to attend a special event focusing on Longleaf Pine trees. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be hosting a Longleaf Pine Opportunities and Management workshop for private landowners and forestry professionals. Longleaf pine forests once encompassed more than 90 million acres of the North American landscape.

Today, only three percent, or 3.4 million acres, remain and, yet, Longleaf pine forests represent some of the world's most biologically diverse ecosystems. The Longleaf pine ecosystem provides critical habitat for 29 threatened and endangered species.

NRCS and its conservation partners within South Carolina are helping private landowners improve the sustainability and profitability of Longleaf pine forest ecosystems.

The morning portion of the workshop will highlight Longleaf Pine values, establishment, fire ecology and wildlife, economics, and financial assistance programs through presentations .The afternoon portion of the workshop will include a field tour of Longleaf Pine forests in the Camden area after lunch. This program will be especially beneficial for private landowners/land managers. The workshop is $5 in advance and $10 at the door and will be held June 25, 2014 at 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Meet at the : Kershaw County School Districts Auditorium (2029 West Dekalb St. Camden, South Carolina 29020 ) at 8 a.m. for presentations and discussion, then after lunch we will caravan to the designated field site at 1:15 PM.
