Board to vote on bond referendum language

At its June 17 meeting, the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees will vote on Phase 2 Facilities Equalization Plan Referendum Language.

At its June 3 meeting, the board asked for the proposed language to be brought forward for consideration at the next meeting. A draft of the wording is attached to the agenda available through the district’s website. As part of its consideration of draft referendum language, the board will also discuss listing projects in priority order as part of the referendum language.

The sample referendum questions are as follows:

• Shall the Board of Trustees of the School District of Kershaw County, South Carolina (the "school district"), be empowered to issue, at one time or from time to time, general obligation bonds of the school district, in a principal amount of not exceeding $____, the proceeds of which shall be used to construct, improve, equip and renovate school buildings or other school facilities including the cost of land whereon to construct or establish such school facilities?

• Shall the Board of Trustees of the School District of Kershaw County, South Carolina, be authorized to issue general obligation bonds of the School District of Kershaw County, South Carolina in a principal amount not exceeding $____, the proceeds of which shall be used to finance the costs of land acquisition and the cost of constructing, improving, equipping (including technology), expanding, renovating and repairing school facilities within the School District, as follows:

ATEC -- new construction. Camden Area -- Camden Elementary: new construction; Camden High School: expansion and/or renovations and improvements to athletic facilities. North Central Area -- North Central Elementary: new construction; North Central Middle School: improvements; North Central High School: expansion and/or renovations, and improvements to athletic facilities. West Wateree Area -- Lugoff Elementary: new construction; Wateree Elementary: new construction; Lugoff-Elgin High School: expansion and/or renovations, and improvements to athletic facilities; Stover Elementary: improvements.

•Shall the Board of Trustees of the School District of Kershaw County, South Carolina, be authorized to issue general obligation bonds of the School District of Kershaw County, South Carolina in a principal amount not exceeding $____, the proceeds of which shall be used to finance the costs of land acquisition and the cost of constructing, improving, equipping (including technology), expanding, renovating and repairing school facilities within the School District, including a new ATEC facility; a new Camden Elementary School; expansions and renovations (including athletic facilities) to Camden High School; a new North Central Elementary School; improvements to North Central Middle School; expansions and renovations (including athletic facilities) to North Central High School; a new Lugoff Elementary School; a new Wateree Elementary School; expansions and renovations (including athletic facilities) to Lugoff-Elgin High School; and improvements to Stover Elementary School.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the back building at the district office at 2029 W. DeKalb St. in Camden.
