After voting unanimously last week to pass the third and final reading of the Fiscal Year 2015 budget, the Kershaw County Council has the budget on the agenda again for their meeting this Tuesday. The agenda is dominated by second readings of nine ordinances that would modify Zoning and Land Use Regulations, but the subject of the budget is the first agenda item listed.

County Administrator Vic Carpenter was out of town as this report was written, but Kershaw County Council Clerk Merri Seigler explained some councilmen had requested the budget be placed back on the agenda for further amendments or modifications. She said she did not know specifically what alterations the councilmen wished to make.

Another agenda item is first reading of an ordinance restricting the discharge of firearms in certain areas of the county.

Under new business, council will consider a millage increase requested by the Kershaw County School District and will consider an appointment to the Economic Development Committee to replace Councilman Jimmy Jones, who said he has been on the committee for several years and he feels it’s time to let another councilman take the position.

The council is meeting two weeks in a row because last week’s meeting was originally scheduled for June 10 but was postponed one week because of the primary election. Council meets at 5:30 p.m. in the council chamber at the Kershaw County Government Center. The meeting is open to the public.
