Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton is already being anointed by some Democrats as the party’s next presidential nominee, but some people have short memories. Clinton also was being handed the party’s crown prior to the 2008 election, but a man named Barack Obama came along and Clinton abruptly slid into second place. Now, after giving up the secretary of state’s position, Clinton’s poll numbers are already falling, and she’s starting to make some gaffes that are dimming the luster.

As one national political observer recently noted, Clinton was widely admired as secretary of state, a position that promotes popularity. But now she’s again being seen by many as a polarizing political figure rather than a national official in a prestigious position. Clinton’s unfavorable ratings are on the rise, and the political season hasn’t truly begun yet. And Clinton, whose net worth is estimated to be about $50 million, said recently that she is “unlike a lot of people, who are truly well off.”

Nobody will deny that both Clinton and her ex-president husband are politically savvy. But middle-class Americans will have a difficult time looking at that kind of wealth and then having Clinton claim she’s a populist. There are undoubtedly a lot of Democrats who have White House Fever, and they’ll be throwing barbs at Clinton, not to mention Republicans who would love to regain the oval office. So it would be wise to let a bit more time pass before handing the nomination to Clinton.
