Mendle Thomas Hoffman Sr.

Mendle Thomas “Tommy” Hoffman, Sr. 81, passed away June 12, 2014. He was born and lived most of his life in Columbia SC until he moved to Swansea, SC in 2008. He was the son of the late Sam Peter Hoffman and Sarah Mickle Hoffman. He retired from USC and was a former member of Greene Street United Methodist Church and a member of Woodman of the World. He loved working in the outdoors including taking care of the W. Gordon Belser Aboretum for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict in the U.S. Army and retired from the Reserves.

Memorial service will be held at a later date with military honors in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. He is survived by sons: Mendle Thomas Hoffman Jr., of Columbia, William Samuel Hoffman of Swansea, sister, Sara Jane Hoffman of Columbia; a niece and nephew; his ex-wife and mother of his children, Dorethea Cameron Hoffman of Swansea. He was predeceased by daughter, Tommie Ann Hoffman and a sister, Sammie Rhodes.

He was well loved and will be missed by many.
