Reader favors proposed firearms ordinance

I am writing to support the proposed ordinance to regulate the discharge of firearms in the county.

On Sunday afternoon, February 24, 2013, a bullet came through one of the front windows of our home. It went through the screen and both panes of glass in the window, the wooden shutter, the window curtain, the shower curtain and liner before entering the wall of the shower. If someone had been taking a shower, it would have hit them before entering the wall.

I do not believe that anyone was purposely shooting at our home but that made no difference in the damage done by this bullet. We were just lucky that there was nobody in the shower when the bullet came through the window.

Our county is much more densely populated than in years past and a lot of the trees and forests that used to serve as buffers are no longer there.

I encourage Kershaw County Council to pass this ordinance.
