What some teams would give to have the "problems" which the Lugoff-Elgin wrestling team encountered on Wednesday night.

The Demons, the second-ranked team in class 4A, blistered host Dutch Fork, 49-9, in a Region 4 dual match wrestled in Ballentine. The victory gave Evan Moxie’s charges a 3-0 conference slate heading into Thursday’s pairing with Irmo.

"We struggled getting into a grove all night," Moxie said following the blitzing of the 12th ranked Silver Foxes. "Dutch Fork is a good team with a lot of scrappy kids."

L-E scored three wins by pin with Chris Jackson (112 pounds), Chris Renfroe (119) and Theo Shepard (215) putting their opponents on their backs to account for a combined 18 points. Parker Singleton added another four points with a major decision victory at 145.

Winning by decision for the Demons were Tony Murphy (125), Dreshon Wood (130), Alonzo Grant (135), Jacob Burr (152), Corey Edenfield (160) and Derrik Miller (171) and heavyweight Allen Jenerette. Zach Connell was awarded a six-point win via forfeit at 189.

Moxie said being involved in and winning tight matches was a good sign for his team.

"The good part about (Wednesday) was that when the kids were in a tight match they found a way to win and, that is what matters most to me," he said. "We are getting better every day and should be peaking at the right time."
