No-no helps Florence close out Jets

Kershaw County Post 17 was one of two teams in the Lower Ttate American Legion baseball playoffs to have earned a berth in the second round of the post-season with a three-game sweep.
While Post 17 was putting the finishing touches on Horry County in Wednesday’s 8-1 victory, League II champion Florence closed its series with Dalzell-Shaw in style. Behind right-hander Zack Newton’s  no-hitter, Post 1 downed the Jets, 22-0, in a game stopped after six and one-half innings by the 10-run rule.
Newton carried a perfect game into the seventh before walking Traquan Joe to reduce his night to settling for a no-hitter.
Florence will host Manning-Santee, which won its first round series over Beaufort by forfeit when the Ospreys could not field enough players, in Monday’s second round opening game at Legion Field in Florence.
Kershaw County Post 17 is waiting out tje winner of the series between League I champion Goose Creek vs. League IV fourth-place finisher Georgetown, which was led by Georgetown, two games to one. Game four was to have been played in Georgetown on Thursday with game five, if needed, being played tonight in Goose Creek.
Due to a memorial service being held at Socastee High School on Wednesday, game three of the series between Hartsville and Murrells Inlet was pushed back to Thursday with Hartsville, the third-place finisher in League III, holding a 2-0 series lead after Tuesday’s 2-1, 10-inning win.  Should game four be necessary, it will be played tonight in Kelleytown with Murrells Inlet hosting game five, if needed.
After rolling to 18-2 and 18-10 wins over Lake City in games one of two of their series, League III champion Sumter was upended by the fifth-place finisher from League II, 8-3, on Wednesday night at Riley Park. Game four in the series was scheduled for Thursday in Lake City with Sumter hosting a fifth game, if needed, tonight.
 The winner of the Hartsville vs. Murrells Inlet series faces the winner between Lake City and Sumter in round two play which begins next Monday.
