The KershawHealth Board of Trustees is once again meeting on a twice-a-month basis, with the first of its July meetings taking place today at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will focus on “general” KershawHealth topics. Its second meeting of the month -- set for July 28 -- will focus on finances.

On the agenda this evening are a board quality committee report from Trustee Dr. Tallulah Holmstrom; an ad hoc bylaws committee meeting report from Trustee Wayne Tidwelll; and a strategic planning update from interim KershawHealth CEO Terry Gunn, which will include an update from a legal services ad hoc committee by Trustee Derial Ogburn.

Tidwell’s report will be followed by a vote on two recommended changes to the board’s bylaws. The first change would require that a trustee relinquish his or her seat on the board if they move out of the township from which they were appointed. The second change would continue to require that trustees attend at least 75 percent of all regular meetings and 75 percent of any committees on which they serve, but allow trustees to request a waiver from the requirement to the board’s executive committee.

Board Chair Karen Eckford will report primarily on scheduling matters, including a request to have the board meeting at various locations around the county, similarly to what the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees does during the school year.

In addition to trustee comments, the board will enter executive session in order to review potential contracts with three legal firms vying to become the board and healthcare system’s legal counsel.

Tonight’s meeting is at the Health Resource Center on Battleship Road and is open to the public.
