The leadership of the Lugoff-Elgin High School football and athletic departments stayed within the Demon family for the 2014-15 school year as Dave Thomas was named the school’s  interim head football coach and Craig Marlow as interim activities director Monday.
The dual vacancies occurred following the retirement of Scott Jones, from both positions, to take a teaching/coach/administrative position at Ben Lippen Christian School last week.
“It’s great to have talented persons on staff who can readily assume these duties,” said L-E Principal Worth Thomasson of the two hirings.
“I have great confidence in both of these gentlemen and know that they will find tremendous support from our school community. I’m looking forward to a great year with Demon football and athletics.”
In his first year at L-E last year, Thomas served as the team’s defensive coordinator and head track coach, jobs he previously held at Fort Mill High.  During his 19-year coaching career, Thomas also has served as the varsity linebackers coach at Northwestern High School. Certified in physical education, Thomas started his teaching career at Sugar Creek Elementary School in Fort Mill.
Marlow has served as the school’s assistant activities director since 2012 and also is the girls’ softball coach.  This past season, he led the Lady Demons to a top 10 finish in the final 4A statewide softball poll of the season while guiding his team to the District III championship game.
Marlow previously taught and coached at Leslie M. Stover Middle School where he was named the school’s reading teacher of the year and received the PTO’s Friend of the Student Award.
