Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) investigators and Oceanside (Calif.) Police Department (OPD) investigators arrested a Camden woman who apparently moved to Camden on the run from the law in California.

Lindsay Gretchen Sutton, 27, who resides in Camden, was wanted on a California warrant charging her as an accessory to murder.

In a press release, Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said OPD investigators contacted the KCSO late last year asking for help locating Sutton. They said she had been indirectly involved with a gang-related homicide in Oceanside. KCSO investigators found Sutton at her place of employment and she agreed to be interviewed. Oceanside detectives came to Kershaw County for the interview.

After the interview and further investigation, the OPD obtained an arrest warrant for Sutton. They again contacted the KCSO for assistance in locating Sutton. Oceanside detectives came again to Kershaw County and were present when Sutton was arrested Wednesday.

Matthews said Sutton’s bond in California has been set at $1 million and that she is currently in the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting extradition. He said she had been in Kershaw County for between 18 and 24 months.

“It is our information that Sutton moved to Kershaw County to escape the gang situation she had been involved in,” Matthews said in the press release. “She apparently had begun to turn her life around and was starting over in Kershaw County where she had family ties. Unfortunately for her, her past caught up with her and now she has to suffer the consequences of her previous bad choices.”

Matthews said Sutton has no previous arrests in Kershaw County, but has an arrest for DUI, being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia in California.
