A Camden equestrian, writing under the pen name Vanessa Friedrich, is featured in the latest book in the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series.

Friedrich suffered a traumatic brain injury following a riding accident several years ago. She woke up in a hospital days after the incident only to find her mother -- who lives in Europe -- standing over her.

Friedrich’s is one of 101 stories in “Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injuries,” the latest in “Chicken Soup” series. She and other authors describe their often painful steps to their recovery. Friedrich describes how it felt over the long months to regain her physical, mental and emotional health.

Eventually she found the trail and despite her mishap with the horses she loves, she became a therapeutic rider instructor using her skills to aid others.
