When you were a child, what theme park did you always dream about going to? Every time the commercial came on, you would ask your parents, “Can we go there one day?” Hopefully, you were thinking of Disney World!

This year, two of the county’s high school marching bands will be performing at world famous Disney World! In honor of their successful seasons, the North Central Marching Knights and the Lugoff-Elgin Marching Pride will both march in a parade at Disney.

The Lugoff-Elgin Marching Pride will march in a parade in Magic Kingdom on Feb. 18, 2011. The North Central Marching Knights will march a parade at Epcot on Feb. 20, 2011. Being selected to march in a Disney parade is an honor in itself. Both of the bands will perform in front of an international audience, representing the county.

The trips have been in the planning process since this past summer, and all the finer details are being “put in stone.” All of the students, as well as the directors and staff are excited and anxious about the trip. For most students, this will be the first time that they have ever been to Disney World. It is sure to be a very exciting experience for them, and an awesome way to bring the marching band experience this season to a close.

In preparation for the Disney trip, the North Central High School Marching Knights will be holding a couple of fundraisers. First, there will be a yard sale at the Carousel Center in Camden on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 am. In case of inclement weather, it will be rescheduled. Another way you can help is just by giving a donation to either of these two high school bands.

The donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and would help to alleviate the costs to students. For more information of ways to help these bands go to Florida, contact the North Central Band Booster Club or the Lugoff-Elgin Band Booster Club. It is sure to be an experience of a lifetime for these band students!
