A pair of Camden-based jumpers, stablemates and New York-breds have been entered into Thursday’s $75,000 Mrs. Ogden Phipps Stakes fillies and mares steeplechase race at the Saratoga Race Course.
Kate Dalton’s Cat Feathers, which won this race in 2012, and Riverdee Stables Lillehammer, which will make its first start since finishing fifth in last year’s Phipps Stakes, are both trained by Dalton and are part of a seven-mare field of entries. Post time for the day’s opener at the Spa is set for 12:15 p.m.
Both Cat Feathers and Lillehammer are trained in Camden by Dalton who has named her husband, Bernie Dalton, to ride the 6-year-old Cat Feathers, which finished third in the $50,000 Carolina Cup in March. Xavier Aizpuru gets the call aboard Lillehammer, another 6-year-old, which is also entered into today’s $65,000 allowance chase in Saratoga.
Kisser N Run, trained by Richard Valentine,  won the Peapack Hurdle Stakes in Far Hills last October to kick off a three-race win streak which extended into 2014 with wins in the Crown Royal Hurdle Stakes last November before taking the Georgia Cup on April 19, 2014. The 6-year-old is coming off a fourth in her last start, the Margaret Currey Henley Stakes in Nashville in May. Robbie Walsh will be up.
Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard has two pointed for the race in 5-year-old Sully’s Approach, ridden by leading rider Willie McCarthy, and Brilliant Match, a 6-year-old which will have Darren Nagle in the saddle.
Trainer Jack Fisher will send out 10-year-old Opera Heroine with Jeff Murphy in the irons while Doug Fout will give Beverly Steinman’s Secret Reward, a 5-year-old, her third career start. Gerard Galligan gets the call on Thursday.
