The American Red Cross is partnering with the health cabinet of Bethesda Presbyerian Church to sponsor a blood drive on Saturday, August 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This blood drive will honor the memory of Dr. Peter McKoy, a committed Christian, a caring veterinarian and the founding member and president of the Boykin Spaniel Society.

To schedule an appointment, donors may go online to or call 432-4593. Currently, there is room for 18 additional donors. The projected goal is 48 donors. Walk-ins will be welcomed but there may be wait time in order to serve those who scheduled earlier appointments.

All blood donated will first be used as needed in Kershaw County. Some uses for donated blood are for accident cases, cancer patients and bone marrow matches. One pint of blood may even be used to serve three patients.

On site, donors are given confidential health screenings, however any questions about eligibility can be answered by calling 1-800 RED CROSS.

Food will be provided and volunteers will be on hand to make donors feel comformable.

Nothing would please Dr. McKoy more than for friends to turn out and donate blood to help save lives in the community.
