ANDY JOHNSON AND the North Central volleyball team got their season off to a winning start on Tuesday.

If this is how North Central plays when it is jittery, just think of what the Lady Knight volleyball team will do once it settles down.
Andy Johnson’s girls needed just four sets to take down AAA entry Hartsville in Tuesday’s season opener played inside The Castle in Boonetown.
The hostesses took the first pair, 25-21 and 25-18, before the Red Foxes closed the gap to 2-1 with a 26-24 victory. NC capped the night by taking the finale, 25-15.
“We had some first match nervousness,” Johnson said after the win. “Hopefully, we can continue to improve each time we take the court.”
Sophomore setter Logan Coates posted a double-double with a 30-assist, 10-dig evening to go along with two kills and an ace. Senior hitter Ambi Wood led the way along the net with a match-best 19 kills. She added five digs, a block and an ace. Senior Madeline Pate, who like Wood is a returning class AA All-State selection, had 18 digs, two aces and an assist.
Alexis Hackworth had a memorable varsity debut with 13 digs, 10 kills and two aces while Gracen Kerr sent down 10 kills along with a pair of blocks.
