The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) arrested two men and a woman after narcotics investigators found a small methamphetamine lab operating in a Lugoff motel room.

A KCSO press release said deputies took Michael Brass, 31, whose last known address is in Lugoff; Heath Sanders, 30, whose last known address is in Columbia; and Jessica Norris, 29, from Elgin, into custody after officers acting on an anonymous tip went to the motel and spoke with Brass, Sanders and Norris.

Deputies obtained consent to search the room. In the course of their search they discovered what is called a “one pot meth lab” as well as the ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamine. Deputies subsequently arrested the three suspects and charged them with manufacturing methamphetamine.

The press release said Brass has previous arrests for narcotics, simple assault, criminal domestic violence, disorderly conduct, domestic assault and third-degree assault. Sanders reportedly has previous arrests for disorderly conduct, driving under suspension, strong armed robbery and carjacking. Norris reportedly has previous arrests for driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, domestic violence and narcotics, and is currently on probation for narcotics violations from Lexington County.

Deputies took all three suspects to the Kershaw County Detention Center (KCDC) awaiting a bond hearing. Online KCDC records showed they were still in custody Thursday afternoon.

“This is the eighth meth lab seized in Kershaw County this year compared to three labs that were seized in 2013. Meth labs are inherently dangerous and are usually found in rural areas,” Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said in the press release. “Making meth in a motel room near occupants of other rooms is especially dangerous. We appreciate the tip that led to this discovery.”
