Lady Knights stay unbeaten

After having opened the season with three non-region victories, the North Central volleyball team stepped into Region 4-AA action Tuesday and came away with a 3-2 win over host Buford to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Andy Johnson’s charges took the first set against the Yellow Jackets, 25-12, before falling in the second and third sets, 26-24 and 25-19, respectively. NC then beat last year’s Region 4 runners-up in the fourth set, 25-20, before winning the finale, 15-12.
Senior hitter Ambi Wood led the attack along the net for the winners with 25 kills. She added four digs. Sophomore Logan Coates posted another double-double with 37 assists to go along with 10 digs. Senior Libero Madeline Pate came up with 21 digs and seven aces while Kelsie Gardner had a dozen digs and an ace.
Last Friday, NC took both ends of a tri-match at Lancaster, downing the host Bruins by identical 25-15 scores before knocking off 4A Clover 10-25, 25-22 and 25-21.
Gracen Kerr had a big night on the front row with 14 kills to go with five digs and a block. Alexis Hackworth had an evening-best 21 digs while adding seven kills and an ace while Wood had 10 kills and 16 digs. Pate checked in with 20 digs, two aces and a kill.
