Former Camden High volleyball standout and current North Carolina State University sophomore Maggie Speaks was named to the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Classic All-Tournament team following the Wolfpack’s 2-0 finish at last weekend’s tourney played in Wilmington, N.C.
Speaks, a 5-foot-10 sophomore setter, handed out 25 assists in the contest to go along with seven digs and six kills in a 3-1 win over Fairfield University. In a 3-2 victory over the host Seahawks, Speaks doled out 38 assists and recorded her second career double-double performance as she also came up with 13 digs in the match in which the Wolfpack improved to 2-1 on the young season.
A 2013 graduate of Camden High School, Speaks was a three-time region player of the year and a three-time AAA All-State selection while playing for Paige Wilson’s Lady Bulldogs.
In 2012, as a senior, she was named as the South Carolina Coaches Association Women's Sport Player of the Year after a season in which she registered 344 kills, 41 service aces, 107 blocks, 141 digs and 245 assists. Speaks was also a standout in the classroom as she was a member of National Honors Society, the Beta Club and the Key Club at CHS.
