An initiative that began with a combined interest in history and desire to give young students the opportunity to perform on stage will blossom at 6:30 pm on Nov. 13 at the Wood Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County. Students from the Montessori School of Camden will perform an original Thanksgiving play “Sharing the Harvest,” written and directed by MSC parent Denise Folsom and co-produced by MSC parent Teresa L'Heureux.

The play, a musical adaptation of the first Thanksgiving story, involves a range of young students from the school. Members of the community are encouraged to attend this performance.

“We wanted to give our students the opportunity to perform in a school play, as children often do in larger schools, said Folsom. “We thought the Thanksgiving story, which focuses on the themes of sharing and gratitude, was well suited to the philosophy of the school.”

Play practice has motivated parents and students to learn many new skills, as the play combines historical elements, music, scene changes, and varied costumes. Budding actors have been enthusiastic at play practice.       In response to observing her child, Stormy, at practice, L’Heureux responded “My child is very excited to be performing, and we’ve learned a lot about cooperation.”

Admission is $5 for people ages 13 and up. Children ages 12 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door on the day of the performance, as well as at the Montessori School of Camden office. For more information, please contact Denise Folsom at
