Joe Sparks of Elgin is all smiles as he prepares to fill his pick-up with sub-$2 gas at Murphy Express in Camden, one of several Kershaw County stations which dropped the cost of a gallon below $2 on Tuesday morning. Though plummeting oil prices are causing havoc in financial markets, they’re producing big grins for local motorists, who six years ago were paying about twice that much for fuel. The price on the pump for regular unleaded gasoline reads $1.989.
