Steve Abbott, Kershaw County School District (KCSD) director for professional development, will present a district leadership development plan -- also being called a succession plan -- to the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees. The board will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the media center of Wateree Elementary School, 424 Wildwood Lane, Lugoff.

The plan proposes to identify future leaders from among district teachers and ask them to apply to an aspiring leaders program. In addition, the plan calls for undertaking assistant principal development by having assistant principals meet several times during the school year to focus on specific topics. According to the proposal, the idea behind the plan is to “provide existing employees with the opportunity of first consideration for eligible, vacant positions as they become available.”

The board will also focus on its priorities during a discussion led by Chairman Ron Blackmon. Trustees will also consider six different facility requests.

Tuesday’s meeting is open to the public.
