Albert Eugene Lyons passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, NC.

Born November 8, 1922 in Glen Rock, NJ, Al was a long-term resident of Ridgewood, NJ, graduating from Ridgewood HS in 1940, and serving in the US Naval Reserve during WWII.

He married Betty McLaughlin (his wife of 66 years) in 1945; and enjoyed competitive rifle shooting at the Ridgewood Rifle Club, as well as his time spent outdoors as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster.

Al graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and went on to receive his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He worked for many years at Curtiss-Wright Corporation as Manager, Manufacturing Engineering; later in his career he joined Chromalloy Corporation as Manager, New Products Development. After 17 years with Chromalloy, he retired in 1986 as their Manager of Sales Administration.

Upon retirement, he and Betty moved to Pinehurst where he liked golfing at Pinehurst CC as a member of the Men’s Golf Association. In 1999 they moved into Belle Meade Retirement Resort where Al rapidly became involved with the Belle Meade Residents Association as a member of the Buildings & Safety Committee; as well as serving as President or VP of the Dorchester building for many years.

Predeceased by his wife Betty and brother Wilbert A. Lyons, Al is survived by his son James A. Lyons and his wife Tammy Kambeitz Lyons of Charlotte; a sister Marilyn Vanden-Handel of Saratoga Springs, NY; and five nieces: Lois Becker, Judy Green, Leslie DiCarlo, Meredith Vanden-Handel, & Lenore Jandora.

A memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Belle Meade Retirement Resort on Saturday, February 21st at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
