CAMDEN FIRST BASEMAN Amanda Lane prepares to apply the tag on Lugoff-Elgin’s Baleigh Lunsford for the final out in the top of the third inning of Wednesday’s suspended game in Camden.

Lightning, followed by a brief rain shower in the bottom of the third inning, forced the suspension of Wednesday’s softball game between rivals Camden and visiting Lugoff-Elgin with L-E leading 1-0.

The game will be completed when the two sides meet at Lugoff-Elgin on April 8. Following the completion of Wednesday's contest, the regularly scheduled game will be played.

As for Wenesday’s abbreviated affair, the Lady Demons scored the only run of the first two-plus innings in the opening frame. Savannah Grigsby opened the game by drawing a walk and taking second on Delanye Guerrero’s bunt single. Grigsby scored on Baleigh Lunsford’s single to center.

Camden right-hander Kennedi Stokes settled down after that by getting a pair of strikeouts and a ground ball out as the Lady Demons left runners on second and third.

Stokes worked three complete innings and retired the final nine batters she faced after L-E placed its first three batters on. She recorded five strikeouts before the contest was halted.

L-E sent out Erin Blizzard and the senior gave up singles to Hannah Baker in the first inning and one to Christian Welch in the second before running into problems in the bottom of the third.

Shelby Troublefield opend the home half of the third with a walk and was bunted over to second by Whitley Kahler. Baker followed with a one-out single to right to put runners on the corners. Baker was then thrown out trying to steal second before a bolt of lightning forced the game to be suspended.
