A parking area directly behind the Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) stadium will be closed off as a safety precaution starting this week.

“As our school enrollment grows and more cars are in and out of our campus every day, this will be a good move to help ensure student safety,” L-EHS Principal Worth Thomasson said. “Cars will no longer be allowed to park or drop students off in the stadium parking lot during the school day.”

Thomasson said L-EHS students can park behind the main campus or behind the L-EHS annex if they are taking Central Carolina Technical College classes.

This change also impacts Lugoff-Elgin Middle School (L-EMS) students who are housed on the same campus.

“Only L-EMS students who are involved in activities at the high school will be allowed to use the crosswalk to walk over to L-EHS,” L-EMS Principal Karen Bullard said. “All parents who are waiting to pick up L-EMS students should park in the paved lot between the stadium and the high school annex.”

Bullard said L-EMS students should be picked up at the designated car rider area at the front of the school, not at the ticket booth by the stadium. No one will be allowed to park on the road.

Families are asked to enter and exit the campus in the afternoon via Wildwood Lane in order to help minimize the traffic flow through the school campuses.

“We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation with this change,” Thomasson said. “Since students’ safety is the reason, I know people will understand and cooperate.”
