Steven Wayne Scott

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) investigators arrested an Elgin man April 20 on charges of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated, unlawful conduct toward a child and obstructing justice.

According to a KCSO press release, deputies arrested Steven Wayne Scott, 41, of Garlits Drive after a 911 call was made from his home. When deputies arrived, they discovered a minor child with numerous non-life threatening injuries and Scott’s wife with injuries to her face. One of the deputies reportedly overheard Scott telling his 18-year-old son to admit to the assaults so Scott would not be arrested.

Scott was taken to KershawHealth after complaining of chest pains and demonstrating suicidal tendencies. The hospital released him after two days and deputies transported him to the Kershaw County Detention Center (KCDC).

Further investigation revealed Scott had been sexually assaulting residents of his home, as well as in other jurisdictions outside of Kershaw County. Due to those allegations, Scott is also being charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and incest.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed in Kershaw County and in other counties, according to the press release.

Scott remains at the KCDC on $140,000 bond at this time.

According to the KCSO, he has been arrested previously for public disorderly conduct and criminal domestic violence.
