The S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to replace a bridge on Watson Street near Elgin.

SCDOT maintenance forces rated the bridge as structurally deficient, meaning there is deterioration of one of more major components, but is not considered unsafe. SCDOT will close the bridge May 11. Barring any unforeseen delays, the bridge should be reopened to traffic by approximately July 17. Crews will replace the bridge with a new 60-foot pressurized concrete bridge.

A proposed detour route would use Bookman and Bowen roads.
