While letters to the editor are a forum for folks to comment, question, and present opinions and ideas, I have always considered that one of the ground rules about public discussion should be one of mutual respect, not personal attack. After all, in public discourse the goal should be to right a wrong and move toward a resolution, not to drive wedges or build walls that divide.
