A man robbed the Sandhills Bank in Bethune Tuesday morning. Bethune Police Chief Joey Cobb, Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office investigators and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation processed the scene Tuesday and sorted out evidence.

Cobb said few details were available Tuesday afternoon. He said an African-American man wearing a white hoodie and large sunglasses entered the bank around 8:50 a.m., robbed a female employee at gunpoint and fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money.

Cobb said a witness to the crime tried to follow the suspect, but backed off after the robber shot at him and met with an apparent accomplice in a waiting vehicle. He said investigators had arranged to interview the witness.

Cobb also said authorities are reviewing the bank’s surveillance footage, but with the suspect’s disguise, the only visible part of the man’s face was his chin.
