The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) is investigating a report of at least two shots fired at a Cassatt business sometime between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday, while the store was closed.

According to a KCSO report, the business owner reported finding a bullet hole in the front of the building on U.S. 1 and called law enforcement. A responding deputy found a second bullet hole in the storefront and a 9-mm bullet on the ground near a gas pump. The report said the victim said he may have video footage of the incident.

The KCSO reported the following other incidents during the period of July 6-12:

County deputies responded to a suspected arson fire Saturday on Electric Lane in Cassatt. According to a KCSO report, a 43-year-old woman told a deputy she recently had a domestic dispute with a 46-year-old man who told her he would burn her mobile home Saturday. The report said the woman had been staying with family in Columbia to keep away from the man. She said she didn’t believe he would burn the home, but he had recently burned some of her clothing in the yard. The woman gave the deputy a description of the suspect’s car and two witnesses said they saw a car of that type and color at the home just before the fire broke out. According to the report, deputies found two gasoline jugs at the scene and issued a “be on the lookout” for the suspect’s car.

Deputies are also investigating a report from Saturday involving a stolen utility trailer in Elgin. According to the report, a Weatherfield Drive resident said a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV had stopped at his home Friday, a man unhooked the 5-foot by 8-foot trailer from the victim’s truck, hooked it to the Tahoe and drove away. The victim said he has an outside camera at the home, but did not have a view of the trailer itself, only of the street and the Tahoe driving onto the property.

The KCSO also responded to a report of a golf cart stolen from the garage of an Elgin home Sunday. A report indicated a Smokewood Drive resident said he left home around 10 a.m. Sunday and when he returned at 1:30 p.m., found the garage door was open and his 2011 EZ GO golf cart with custom modifications gone.

The KCSO also reported five arrests for driving under the influence, three arrests for possession of marijuana, three for driving under suspension, three reports of criminal domestic violence, two assaults, two arrests for public disorderly conduct, two thefts, two cases of malicious injury to property, two vandalisms and one incident each of open container, harassment, a warrant arrest and a person accidentally shooting their own foot.

Camden Police Department (CPD) officers responded to a call Saturday after a Kendall Street resident discovered $950 worth of lawn care equipment missing from his property. According to a CPD report, a push mower, weed trimmer, leaf blower, power washer and two cans of fuel were missing from an unlocked storage shed.

The CPD also reported four assaults, three reports of trespassing, two incidents of threats being made, two cases of criminal domestic violence and one report each for shoplifting, burglary, harassment, theft and breach of trust.

Incident reports are provided by the Camden Police Department and Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office and are a matter of public record under the S.C. Freedom of Information Act. If the C-I makes a mistake, it will correct it upon verification with the appropriate law enforcement agency. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
