Rotax Grand Nationals take to CMP kart track this weekend

The 16th annual Stone Cold Creamery Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals at the Carolina Motorsports Park in Westville will be free and open to the public.

The event will culminate with national karting champions being crowned on Sunday afternoon following two days of competition over the winding .70-mile layout.

Drivers and their karts will hit the track Saturday morning starting at 10:30 a.m. with racing in all seven divisions taking to the race track for their first heats of the weekend. Racing will continued through the day with the final session starting at 3:54 p.m. Gates to CMP will swing open at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Racing action resumes on Sunday at 9:55 a.m. with the pre-finals. The finals in each class will kick off at 12:45 p.m. with the Masters Max followed, in order, by the Micro Max (1:15 p.m.), Senior Max (1:40 p.m.), Mini Max (2:10 p.m.), DD2 and DD2 Masters (2:35 p.m.) and the Junior Max closing the weekend at 3:05 p.m. The podium celebrations will begin at 4 p.m. The CMP gates will open at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Sunday’s finals in the Micro Max and Mini Max races will be 16 laps in 25-minute blocks. All other divisions will be contested over 22 laps in blocks of 30 minutes.
