Before horses jumped over the 17 Colonial Cup fences for a portion of the $100,000 purse in the Camden fall classic steeplechase, as well as for a purse which sometimes swelled to six figures for the 14-fence spring Carolina Cup, the Carolina Cup Racing Association (CCRA) had already sunk some $30,000 into the gathering, building and the maintenance of the packed-brush jumps which were used for two chases on the Colonial Cup card and one in the spring.
