The KershawHealth Board of Trustees, which normally meets tonight for its second meeting of the month, is postponing the meeting to Wednesday. The meeting will still be held at the Health Resource Center on Battleship Road in Camden and will still begin at 6 p.m.

KershawHealth Attorney David Summer, of the Parker Poe law firm, said the delay is being driven by where negotiations are in the pending deal with Capella Healthcare for the Tennessee company to take over operations of the hospital along with MUSC Health.

“We are still going back and forth with Capella on some details, and we wanted the benefit of Monday and Tuesday with Capella so we would have more to report to the board,” Summer said Friday afternoon.

The board recently extended a letter of intent spelling out the lease/purchase deal to Aug. 31, one week from today. According to the agenda, the board will receive an update and legal advice concerning the Capella/MUSC transaction during an executive session at the end of Wednesday’s meeting. It is the only topic of discussion for the executive session.

During the open portion of the meeting, the board will receive:

• a quality update and report from Board Vice Chair Dr. Tallulah Holmstrom;

• a financial report for the month of July from KershawHealth Comptroller Debbie Johnson in place of Executive Vice President and CFO/COO Mike Bunch who will not be present; and

• a contract committee report from Trustee Derial Ogburn and chairman’s report from Chair Karen Eckford.

The meeting is open to the public.
