Paul Jarrott Williams, 85, formerly of Camden, died Saturday, February 19th, 2011 in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Born April 6, 1925 in New York City to W. Guy Williams and Lillian Trumbo Williams, he was raised in Flushing, NY. Upon graduation from high school, he was drafted into military service and served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon completion of his service, he earned a mechanical engineering degree from New York University. Williams worked as an engineer for DuPont for over 30 years in Wilmington, Delaware; Montague, Michigan; Louisville, Kentucky; and finally Camden, SC.

After retirement, Williams served as an Ambassador for the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, volunteered for the South Carolina Department of Corrections teaching reading and writing skills to inmates, and assisted the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in inspecting building damage throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo. He was a past member of Camden Country Club and Camden’s Golden K Kiwanis Club. A 40 year resident of Camden, Williams moved to the Somerby retirement community in Mount Pleasant late last year.

Williams is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lee Mann Cracraft Williams of Mount Pleasant; three sons, G. Todd Cracraft and wife Margaret of Camden, Scott A. Cracraft and wife Janet of Mount Pleasant, and Guy J. Williams of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren, Katherine, William, and Michael Cracraft of Camden, and Scott Jr. and Kellee Ann Cracraft of Mount Pleasant and a sister, Lois Emma of Hoboken, NJ. He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Belt Williams who died in 1967.

The family extends their gratitude to the caregivers at Somerby retirement community and the Hospice Center of Charleston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Camden, PO Box 494, Camden, SC 29021.

The family will receive friends at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel in Camden on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 3:00 – 4:30 PM. A private inurnment service will be held at a later date.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
