Getting ready for play

The new state-of-the-art, handicapped-accessible playground at the West Wateree Athletic Complex between Lugoff and Elgin is quickly taking shape (first photo). Volunteers spent the past weekend installing equipment. A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 14. The main body of the playground equipment features numerous ramps, slides and other features for children to enjoy. Volunteers from various Kershaw County government department worked with contractors from Triad Property Services of Greensboro, N.C., (second photo) to install benches at the playground. Playground Steering Committee Chairperson Laurey Carpenter said construction is right on schedule. “Thanks to overwhelming support and continued support from our community, I am happy to announce that the Community Playground is on schedule for completion.,” she said.  “By November 14, our playground will be enjoyed by all of our children in Kershaw County and beyond.”
