Downtown Bethune is celebrating the openings of three new businesses, all of which held ribbon cutting ceremonies Wednesday.

Tracy and Ross Beebe opened their retail shop, Best Bargains, at 118 S. Main St. on the corner of U.S. 1 and S.C. 341 in September. The store is open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Tracy Beebe said they seek out like-new merchandise to sell at a considerable discount.

“This is newer stuff. The boxes have been damaged or something like that. We go through it and test it and make sure everything is working,” she said. “We put stuff together and price it (for) about half the price of the big stores. We didn’t expect to do as well as we have so far.”

Tracy said a grand opening will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday with hot dogs, prizes and special deals.

Cardiologist Dr. W. Lawrence Schoolmeester opened a Bethune location for Camden Heart Care in July in a former home at 106 Walton St. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays only. Camden Heart Care’s Camden office is at 1045 West DeKalb St.

Kim Fulmer opened Consignment 101 at 101 Main Street S. It is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The store is closed the last week of each month. Fulmer said the shop is stocked primarily with women’s clothing, handbags and accessories, with a separate section for children’s clothing.

“It’s really good to see new businesses opening up here in Bethune,” Mayor Charles McCoy said. “That’s what we all want.”
