At 6 p.m. today, the KershawHealth Board of Trustees will meet for the final time as the authoritative body governing all aspects of KershawHealth operations. Capella Healthcare of Franklin, Tenn., and MUSC Health -- the healthcare providing arm of the Medical University of South Carolina -- are set to take over most KershawHealth operations Sunday at 12:01 a.m.

At that point, the current board will govern the Kershaw County Hospital Service District, overseeing the Karesh Long Term Care Center and the former sites of Pine Tree Hill Elementary School and Burndale Shopping Center. As part of a separate agreement from the lease/purchase and operation of KershawHealth, Capella will manage the Karesh unit on the board’s behalf.

Meanwhile, the board still has business to take care of tonight. On the agenda are a quality update and report from Trustee Dr. Tallulah Holmstrom, a report from CEO Terry Gunn, a financial update from CFO Mike Bunch and a report from new Board Chairman Derial Ogburn.

The board will then enter executive session to review a medical staff report and receive further updates and legal advice on the Capella/MUSC transaction.

Tonight’s meeting is open to the public.
