A special friend

Everybody wants lots of friends. But there are all kinds of friends. There are people that work along with you in some cause. There are people you know (and can’t remember their names). The best friends are the ones you call in bad times. They understand even if they don’t agree.

In a lot of ways teenage years can be painful. It is so important to be popular. This is tough in a town where people seem to have all the friends they need.

The teen years are a time of testing for many. They are the years when the young person is making first steps into being an adult. They are past the years of wearing mommy’s dress or daddy’s hat. They are trying to think and act like adults. But it is also a time when they are not yet ready to pay rent or care for a family.

I don’t remember when the wonderful thought came to me. But one lovely day, I learned a magical truth. It made everything else “fit into my life’s puzzle.” I had one true, “best” friend, and that was all I needed. This was the person I called in bad times. Finally I understood – the person who has a real friend is rich beyond measure!
