Gilbert Cantey Jr.

Mr. Gilbert (June Bug) Cantey Jr., of Lugoff, was the eldest son of the late Mr. Gilbert and Daisy Cantey Sr. of Cassatt, South Carolina. He was born April 27, 1934 and entered into eternal rest after an extended illness on February 21, 2011, at his home.

Mr. Cantey was educated in the Kershaw County Public Schools. His occupation was a logger for over forty-five years. His hobbies consisted of hunting, fishing, gardening and raising his grand and great grands. He joined Green Hill Baptist Church at an early age.

Mr. Cantey was married to Mrs. Mozelle Lyles Cantey, for fifty-seven years of this union five children were born.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a son, Mr. Isaac Leroy Cantey; brothers, Thomas "Sonny boy" Cantey and Walter "Bookey" Cantey; a sister, Dorothy Cantey O'Neal; a grandson, Serafen Xavius Cantey.

Those left to cherish his fond memories, grieve his passing and celebrate his homegoing are his loving wife, Mrs. Mozelle Lyles Cantey, Lugoff, South Carolina; two sons, Larrie (Josie) Cantey of Lugoff, South Carolina and Gil (Carol) Cantey, Warrenton, Virginia; a special nephew/son, Mr. Thomas Cantey; three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Mae (Bobby) Dixon of Lugoff, South Carolina, Carolyn Loretta (Ethan) Benson of Elgin, South Carolina and Stephania Deanna (Phillip) Patton of Lugoff, South Carolina; one brother, Willie (Bubba) Cantey of Lugoff, South Carolina; two sisters, Lillie Lyles and Lottie (Joseph) Lyles both of Elgin, South Carolina; twenty grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at Green Hill Baptist Church, Lugoff. Burial will take place at Green Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Lugoff.

Haile's Funeral Home is in charge.
