Camden tree lighting kicks off holiday season tonight

The city of Camden will officially kick off the holiday season with its annual tree lighting ceremony today at 6 p.m. in front of Camden City Hall. The public is invited to gather and enjoy hot chocolate and holiday music featuring a small ensemble of the Camden Community Concert Band and the combined youth choirs from Bethesda Presbyterian Church. 

Other upcoming events in and around town include:

• Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County Holiday Sales Show, Dec. 4-16. The show will feature hand-made items and pieces of artwork from more than 40 artists. For more information, visit 

• The Candlelight Tour of Homes, presented by the Camden Junior Welfare League featuring a variety of private and public sites throughout the historic district. The tour starts at 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Camden Archives and Museum. Tickets may be purchased ahead of time by visiting or at the archives on the day of the tour. 

• The seventh annual Old McCaskill’s Country Christmas Trunk Show will be held Dec. 6  from 1 to 6 p.m. For more information, visit 

• Kershaw County Christmas Parade beginning at 10 am Dec. 12. View the many floats, horses, fire trucks, beauty queens, classic cars, dancers, music, Santa and more.
