Led by another individual and award-winning performance from Seth Ham, the Lugoff-Elgin wrestling team rebounded from a Wednesday loss to Chapin to finish second in last weekend’s Silver Fox Invitational at Dutch Fork High School.

Boiling Springs wrestled to the title in the 17-team event with 178.5 points with the Demons next with 171. Westwood was third with 158 points with Chapin and Dutch Fork rounding out the top five with 141 and 139 points, respectively.

Ham, a senior 195-pounder, was perfect on Saturday en route to being named as the most outstanding wrestler by the 17 head coaches. He was also tabbed as the most outstanding upper weight division wrestler at the Southern Slam Invitational one week earlier. Ham improved to 11-0 on the season with all those wins coming by pin.

Another L-E wrestler, sophomore Devin Wilson won the 120 pound class. Wilson defeated a returning 4A state placer from Westwood in the finals, 5-3, to claim the title.

In all, Ted Monroe’s Demons had eight wrestlers to place in the top four in their respective weight classes. Donneal Johnson (126 pounds), Jacob Power (132), Taylor Catoe (138), Jacob Carron (152) and Alex Register (220) all finished third while Cameron Payne took fourth at 170 pounds.

L-E will travel to Fort Dorchester on Wednesday to take on the defending 4A State Runner-ups, as well as Goose Creek, which was also ranked ahead of the Demons in the preseason rankings.  Wrestling will begin at 6 p.m. at Fort Dorchester High School.
