Three men already in jail in Lancaster County now face multiple burglary charges from Kershaw County.

According to a Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) press release, the arrested men are Johnny Ray Pyatt, 35; Bobby Charles Wallace Jr., 25; and Joshua Lee Whitaker, 18, all from Lancaster County.

During the past two months, KCSO investigators worked jointly with Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) investigators attempting to identify and ultimately arrest the persons responsible for more than 30 burglaries in Lancaster and Kershaw counties.

As a result of the cooperative effort, KCSO investigators obtained warrants for Pyatt, Wallace and Whitaker and have identified them as being responsible for four burglaries and suspected of being responsible for at least 10 more in Kershaw County. In addition, Union County officials are charging Pyatt, Wallace and Whitaker with possession of stolen goods after catching the men with merchandise stolen from the Kershaw County burglaries.

All three suspects are being held at the Lancaster County Detention Center on nearly 26 warrants on charges stemming from burglaries in Lancaster County.

According to the KCSO, Pyatt has been previously arrested for possession of beer under 21, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest (multiple counts), simple possession of marijuana, petty larceny (multiple counts), assault and battery (multiple counts), disturbing the peace, obtaining goods under false pretenses, use of vehicle without permission, trespassing, grand larceny (multiple counts), breach of trust, failure to stop for blue lights, pointing and presenting a firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, DUI (multiple counts), driving under suspension, burglary, vehicle theft, felony fleeing with injury, providing false information to police, breaking and entering (multiple counts), felony larceny, possession of stolen goods, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, injury to real property and communicating threats.

Wallace has been previously arrested for breach of trust (multiple counts), receiving stolen goods (multiple counts), grand larceny (multiple accounts), burglary (multiple counts), financial transaction card theft (multiple counts), possession of stolen goods (multiple counts), abandonment of animals and animal cruelty.

Whitaker has been previously arrested for burglary.

“These arrests were the result of excellent cooperation between Kershaw and Lancaster County authorities,” Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said. “Burglaries are very difficult to solve, but these arrests came after some good breaks for the investigators. The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office will continue to cooperate with other law enforcement agencies with the end goal of locking up criminals of all types who prey on our citizens.”
