In a statement released today, The KershawHealth Foundation announced it is changing its name to the Health Foundation of Kershaw County. In the press release, foundation officials said the organization has historically operated as a non-profit organization engaged in the operation of advancing healthcare in Kershaw County through its funding of capital improvement projects and programs within KershawHealth.

“2016 brings a name change to our foundation … reflecting the new healthcare environment in Kershaw County,” foundation officers said.

The foundation is operated by a volunteer board of directors and has no paid staff positions.

Officials said the intent of the foundation is to now accept grant applications every fall beginning Sept. 30, 2016. Applicants and projects must be a 501(c)(3) corporation and demonstrate a positive impact on the overall health of Kershaw County residents.

“For the 2016 year, given the recent hospital transaction, we will also accept applications during the month of January,” foundation officials said. “All requests must be received no later than January 31. Grants will be awarded no later than April 2016.”

The foundation intends to distribute awards annually while ensuring the financial sustainability of the foundation for future years.

Earlier this year, the foundation said it had approximately $2 million remaining in its accounts.
