Demons split pair in Upstate

 In the latest stop of a grueling schedule, the Lugoff-Elgin High School wrestling team split a pair of Wednesday night matches in the Upstate.

The Demons opened the evening with a 41-30 win over Byrnes High School before losing to third-ranked Dorman in the nightcap, 42-30.

By dividing the two matches, first-year head coach Ted Monroe’s troops are now 10-5 in dual matches this season.

In the win over the feisty Rebels, L-E received victories from Jacob Power at 132 pounds, Taylor Catoe (138), Noah North (145), Jacob Carron (152), Evan McDonald (160), Nick Payne (182), Seth Ham (195) and Alex Register at 220 pounds.

In spite of the loss to Dorman, the Demons had a highlight match from Noah as the junior 145-pounder won a 3-1 decision over Cavalier seniorSahanrd Bain, the top-ranked 145-pounder in the state according toscmat.com.

Scoring wins against Dorman for the Demons also included Bryan Robinson (113), Power (132), McDonald (160), Ham (195) and Hunter Peake at 285 pounds.

 The Demons will travel to Rock Hill High School today to compete in the two-day Bearcat Invitational, traditionally one of the top tournaments in the Palmetto State.
