Bloomsbury Bed & Breakfast owners Katherine and Bruce Brown show off their 2015 Betty Skeen Hospitality Employees of the Year award from the Olde English District Tourism Commission. The commission awarded the Browns the honor during an annual luncheon on Dec. 15, 2015, in Union.

Katherine and Bruce Brown, owners of Bloomsbury Bed & Breakfast in Camden, are the 2015 recipients of the Betty Skeen Hospitality Employees of the Year award from the Olde English District Tourism Commission. The Browns received the award at an annual luncheon sponsored by Duke Energy on Dec. 15, 2015, at Veterans Memorial Park Lodge in Union.

According to an Olde English press release, Bloomsbury is ranked 12th out of 17,000 bed and breakfast inns in the country. The Browns are the first couple to share the Betty Skeen award.

“Online reviews rank them as ‘amazing’ and ‘exemplary’ and mention their stellar service,” Olde English officials said in the press release. “They will compete with the winners from the state’s other 10 tourism regions for the 2015 South Carolina Hospitality Employee of the Year.”

The winner will be named at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Travel, to be held in February in Charleston.

Other awards presented at the luncheon included the 2015 Carrie B. Dover Volunteer of the Year to George Bruce of Union, while Chester State Park was named the 2015 Olde English District Attraction of the Year.

The Olde English District Tourism Commission promotes tourism for seven counties: Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union and York. This year’s awards luncheon included guest speaker “Smokin’” Ed Currie, a “mad scientist” and chef who spoke about his journey to attain the Guiness World Record for the world’s hottest pepper.
