Anthony Dervin

Anthony Dervin, 44, of Elgin was arrested on charges of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct in the first degree by the Elgin Police Department (EPD) Wednesday evening.

EPD Chief Harold Brown said Dervin attacked a female victim with a knife, cutting and stabbing her several times Tuesday night at a home on Sessions Road. She told police when she tried to leave, Dervin held her captive. Her injuries were not life threatening and she was treated and released from the hospital.

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) bloodhound team and a S.C. Law Enforcement Division helicopter responded Tuesday night, but were unable to locate Dervin at the time.

Brown said the victim and the suspect knew each other, but that he still does not know what led to the stabbing.

Brown said good police work and cooperation with the KCSO led to Dervin’s arrest.
